review of kitchenaid metal food grinder attachment

I was gifted the KitchenAid metal food grinder attachment for Christmas of 2022. This unit mounts to your existing KitchenAid mixer. I purchased two pork shoulders totaling about 16 pounds and was preparing to make spicy beer bratwurst over the weekend. I cut up and cubed the pork shoulders in approximately one-inch squares. I was about a pound short of the 12-pound recipe, so I also cubed up 1 pound of thick cut bacon in one-inch cubes as well. I placed all the meat and the entire KitchenAid grinder in the freezer for about an hour.

The secret to grinding is to keep everything super cold, it's easier to grind, and you do not want to form any bacteria.

The grinder easily mounted on the mixer. I used the course grind plate, once ran through I ran the second time with the medium grinding plate. Mixed in my seasonings and added some small cheese cubes and diced jalapeno peppers. I then removed the grinding plate and blade and added the stuffer plate and the large sausage stuffer tube. Had soaked my sausage casings and put them on the stuffer tube and started the process of pushing 12 pounds of my pork mix into the tube. It's a labor-intensive process but it worked flawlessly.

The KitchenAid grinder attachment made excellent looking sausage rings. All in all, this is a one stop grinding attachment that works very well. It feels very durable and sturdy. It was an easy cleanup process, everything disassembles, and the kit comes with a brush. I definitely would recommend this to anyone who may be looking to make their own sausage or ground beef at home. It did an excellent job and did not disappoint. If you are doing a large batch, it might be beneficial to purchase a separate sausage stuffer.

If you already own a KitchenAid mixer you can't go wrong with this unit. It was selling for about $89.00 at the time of writing this post.
